The Sacred Space Where Fate Meets Free Will

How the intersection of destiny and decision shapes our lives – and who we’re becoming.

Fate or Free Will?

Have you ever wondered whether a particular moment in your life was meant to happen?

A chance encounter. A difficult ending. An opportunity that arrived at exactly the right time.

Was it fate?

Or was it simply the result of the choices you made?

It’s a question that has fascinated humanity for centuries, and one that stayed with me long after a recent conversation with psychic medium, spiritual mentor, and founder of the Consciousness Academy, Ceejay Amanda, on my podcast, Contain Her Magic.

As we explored mediumship, intuition, soul purpose, and the unseen world, we found ourselves talking about fate and free will. Ceejay shared her perspective that some soul journeys appear to be more fated, while others allow for much greater freedom of choice. Rather than seeing fate and free will as opposing ideas, she described them as existing together, each playing a role in our lives.

It left me thinking about how our soul’s purpose and consequently the outcome of our lives might be influenced by each, which led me to an even deeper question:

What happens in the sacred, liminal space where fate meets free will?

Navigating the Unseen

Because sometimes, that’s where clarity begins.

When we hear the phrase the sacred space, we might imagine the unseen world we discussed in the podcast—the mysterious place between this life and whatever lies beyond it. The place where intuition, Spirit, guides, ancestors, and loved ones invite us to consider that perhaps there is more to life than what we can perceive with our senses.

But what if this sacred, in-between space was something more?

A space where what may already be unfolding in our lives meets the choices we make every single day.

Perhaps life isn’t simply a question of fate or free will.

Perhaps it’s lived in the sacred, unseen space where the two meet. Some would call this a choice point.

I sometimes picture it like a river.

The river itself may already have a course. It twists, turns, widens, narrows, and eventually finds its way to the sea. There may be parts of that journey we were always meant to experience.

But how we travel that river is another matter entirely.

We can resist the current or learn to move with it.

We can cling to the riverbank or trust ourselves enough to step into the flow.

We can ignore the invitations life places before us, or courageously choose to answer them.

Maybe we don’t choose every circumstance.

But we always have a relationship to it.

Discerning the Way

Maybe certain people, opportunities, and experiences arrive for a reason. Maybe they are part of a greater unfolding that we can’t yet see.

And yet every one of those moments still asks something of us.

Will I trust my intuition?

Will I say yes?

Will I walk away?

Will I repeat an old pattern, or choose a different one?

To me, this is where discernment comes alive.

Not simply as a spiritual concept or a skill reserved for communicating with Spirit, but as a way of navigating life itself.

Discernment is the ability to pause in that sacred space.

To become aware.

To notice what is presenting itself.

To sense what feels aligned.

And then consciously choose how we move forward.

The Power of the Pause

As I reflected on this conversation, I couldn’t help but think about another area of my work—our nervous system.

Recently, on my YouTube channel, I’ve been exploring the space between a trigger and our response. At first glance, it may seem like a completely different conversation.

I don’t think it is.

Whether we’re talking about fate and free will or the way our nervous system responds to life’s challenges, we keep arriving at the same place.

The pause.

The moment where awareness meets choice.

It reminds me of a well-known idea often attributed to Viktor Frankl:

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

Whether we’re navigating a difficult conversation, a major life decision, or what feels like a profound spiritual experience, perhaps our greatest power is found in that space.

Life presents us with experiences we may not have chosen.

Our power lies in how we meet them.

But perhaps our choices do more than shape our circumstances.

What if they shape us?

The Point of Co-creation

And as we change, perhaps we align with different possibilities, different relationships, different opportunities—what some is often described as different timelines.

Whether someone calls that timelines, neuroplasticity, nervous system regulation, personal growth, or spiritual evolution, the lived experience can feel remarkably similar.

We become a different version of ourselves.

And from that place, we notice different opportunities, make different decisions, cultivate different relationships, and ultimately experience a different life.

Perhaps every moment invites two creations.

The life we’re building…

And the self who’s building it.

Perhaps they’re simultaneously creating one another.

Maybe that’s how we gradually grow into our soul’s purpose.

Not through one defining moment.

But through the countless choices that quietly shape both our lives and the person we’re becoming.

Maybe that’s the deeper invitation hidden within the conversation around fate and free will.

Not to prove one or the other.

But to recognize that life may be continually inviting us into both.

Perhaps destiny presents the invitation.

Free will is how we choose to answer it.

And somewhere in the sacred space where fate meets free will…

We become.
