Healing Through Connection: You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

Lessons on belonging, alignment, community, and navigating life transitions from my conversation with Jaime Moar.

There are moments in life when the ground beneath us shifts.

An illness appears. A relationship changes. A career path no longer feels aligned. The responsibilities of caregiving arrive without warning. Or perhaps there is simply a quiet knowing inside that something in your life no longer feels like it belongs.

These transitions can be disorienting. They invite us to pause, to reassess, and to listen more closely to our inner wisdom. And yet, many women move through these moments believing they must figure everything out on their own.

But the truth is this:

You don’t have to do this alone.

One of the intentions behind the Contain Her Magic podcast is to create a space where women can heal through connection and shared experience—a space where stories become mirrors, where insight emerges through conversation, and where we remember that growth often unfolds in relationship.

In my recent conversation with entrepreneur, yoga instructor, Human Design guide and author Jaime Moar, that truth became beautifully clear. Again and again, connection appeared as a quiet but powerful force throughout her story – especially when her life took an unexpected turn.

Early in her journey with yoga, Jaime didn’t approach the practice as something purely personal. Teaching yoga became an offering to others—a way of sharing something meaningful with the community around her. What began as a calling to serve others soon became an invaluable source of support in her own healing.

When the opportunity arose to create something more, Jaime agreed to co-found a yoga studio with a partner she felt deeply aligned with. It was the energy of that partnership—the sense of support and shared vision—that made her say yes!

Then everything shifted with one phone call.

Just as the studio was about to open, Jaime received a call from her doctor: “Your results are in. Come in this afternoon… and bring a friend.”

She was diagnosed with an unpredictable form of lymphoma. Soon after, she also found herself stepping into the role of caregiver for her father—two unsettling challenges arriving at once.

Moments like these can feel profoundly isolating.

And yet, connection continued to appear.

With the support of her partner, the studio did open and became a place where people could gather, move, breathe, and reconnect with themselves.

When I asked Jaime what her yoga practice had ultimately brought her, her answer was simple: community. There is a certain irony in that, since yoga is often seen as a deeply personal practice. And yet for Jaime, it became a doorway to healing through connection.

Even as she moved through treatments, Jaime continued teaching yoga—drawing strength from the very community she had helped create. A friend from the lymphoma community she met online also offered understanding and encouragement.

Rather than seeing herself as a victim of circumstance, Jaime chose to take an active role in shaping what came next. She helped lead a fundraising initiative for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, transforming a difficult chapter into a shared act of generosity, support, and empowerment.

Through these experiences, something Jaime had learned earlier through her study of Human Design began to take on deeper meaning.

“That does not belong to me.”

These words had already become a quiet practice in her life—an invitation to discern what was truly hers to carry and what was not. But during her illness, their power became unmistakably clear.

Letting go of what did not belong created space to gravitate toward the people, projects, and opportunities that truly lit her up—and with that came, a deeper sense of alignment and belonging.

That insight would later inspire the title of her book, That Does Not Belong to Me.

And yet, wisdom rarely blooms on its own. It is often through our relationships that we begin to see our own truth more clearly.

The people around us can act as mirrors, reflecting patterns we may not yet see in ourselves. They can become sounding boards, helping us hear the clarity of our own voice. And they can offer support and perspective when life asks us to navigate unfamiliar terrain.

In this way, connection doesn’t replace inner knowing—it helps illuminate it.

When we step into partnership or community, we enter a shared field of possibility. Surrounded by the right people, projects, and intentions, we are often nourished by our environment.

That nourishment allows us to focus less on the limitations of our circumstances and more on what we are capable of building together.

Where Community Creates the Conditions for Healing

In my coaching practice, I hold space for meaningful transformation by upholding three essential conditions: safety, belonging, and dignity.

When those elements are present, we begin to relax. Our nervous system settles. Our perspective widens. New possibilities emerge.

The outer noise fades, and our inner authority becomes easier to hear.

It’s where we ask the question: What do I need right now?
And we learn to honour the answer.

We start to recognize what truly belongs—and what does not.

From that place, we make better choices for ourselves and in our relationships with others.

Healing, in this way, becomes something collective.

A quiet realization that you don’t have to do this alone.
