The Hidden Cost of Stress in Schools
Stress and overwhelm don’t just feel uncomfortable—they directly affect learning and teaching.
-
- Students in survival mode struggle with focus, memory, and creativity.
-
- Anxiety drains energy needed for growth, social development, and self-confidence.
-
- Teachers facing burnout are less able to provide the consistency and support students need.
When stress becomes the norm, it undermines academic performance, emotional well-being, and community wellness.

Supporting Teachers, Staff & Parents
For real, lasting impact, students need adults to model and reinforce the same tools. That’s why we also offer a Teacher/Staff/Parent Workshop, designed to:

- Build consistency across school and home for students to feel safe and supported
When educators and families practice self-regulation together, the entire school community thrives.
Why Early Intervention Matters
The prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain responsible for self-regulation—is still developing in students and young adults. Without guidance, chronic stress can derail learning and growth. Creating a school culture that prioritizes wellness early in establishes the framework for self-care and self-actualization.
By teaching students how to manage stress early—and giving teachers and parents the tools to back them up—we create a foundation for: Academic success
Emotional well-being
Lifelong resilience
Ongoing Support
-
- Lifetime access to Totally Cool Tools for Self-Regulation online video tutorials (e.g., What to Do if I Start to Feel Anxious)
-
- Easy reference guides and progress sheets to keep students engaged and on track

Alongside her yoga credentials, Sonia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and has worked extensively in education with the Eastern Townships School Board, teaching students of all ages. Drawing from her experience as a parent, teacher, and yoga educator, she partnered with the Yamaska Literacy Council (YLC) and Townshippers’ Association to offer stress management and learning workshops. With YLC, she went on to design and facilitate family literacy programs that weave together breathing, movement, and mindfulness to support learning outcomes.
Her work also extends to teaching a weekly yoga and wellness program at a residential treatment centre, supporting individuals living with mental health challenges, concurrent disorders, and addiction.
Deeply committed to ongoing learning, Sonia continues to explore the intersections of therapeutic yoga, fascia and movement, and yoga and neuroscience. She is particularly interested in the impact of yoga and mindfulness on the nervous system, neuroplasticity, self-regulation, resilience, vitality, and learning—knowledge she brings into every class, coaching session, and workshop she leads.
